A rare and important sword to Lt George Brooke transferred into the 1st Battalion Irish Guards in 1900 upon its formation.
The blade clearly displays no battle honours and has the cypher of Edward VII, With the Irish Guards to the reverse surmounted by the Kings crown
He served with the 2nd Battalion Hampshire Regiment in South Africa, He resigned his commission in 1905 before rejoining the Regiment in 1914 at the start of the Great War, He was killed in October of that year.
